5 Scary to dirt like Jaws was to swimmers
Posted by Nancy Williams on Dec 7th 2024
When we were looking to buy a house way back when you could afford to do that, we made the choice NO CARPET. Hardwood looks nice, its easy to clean, and it’s more durable. Once we had kids, they didn’t see it the same way and you’d think asking them to run a mop over the floor was akin to torture! So I was already halfway to being pleased when I opened the Shark HydroDuo and several kids became excited to get to help try it (I told them no until I knew how it worked so I could write this review). In the box is the unit itself in two pieces and the charging pad, which plugs into your wall outlet and will recharge your HydroDuo when not in use. None of the messes I attempted to clean were large enough to run out the battery, it will work for an hour or more in my experience. Also in the box is a small bottle of the Shark Hydro Multi-Surface Cleaning concentrate. The Shark has a trigger that will spray in front to help with cleaning up sticky or stuck on messes using a mix of water and the concentrate. The reservoir snaps into the front of the Shark and has lines to illustrate how much water to fill then where to fill the rest of the way with the cleaner concentrate (Its approximately a 4-1 ratio. What’s neat about this “mop vacuum” is that you can clean wet, dry, or mixed messes without having to change any settings, you just turn it on and point it where you want it to go. The spinning of the roller gives it a little bit of drive to it, you feel it pulling you forward a little, which my family found endearing given it being a Shark and it attacking the messes like a shark. We started with a spill of chocolate chips and milk in the living room and it took the mess up in one swipe! There was a small scare that on the first 45 seconds of use that I had broken it when it made a loud crunching sound but upon inspection it looks like it just destroyed one of the chocolate chips instead of sucking it up whole like the others. The unit has a blue tinted light in front which I found odd but it actually illuminates the floor in such a way that you can see the debris and mess you still need to clean. That sounds crazy, and maybe my floor was just THAT BAD that it was obvious, but I swear the light was showing me where to go next and eating everything in front of it. After we cleaned the living room, dining room, and hallway all the cleaning was done for the time being. Following the directions inside I squeezed two tabs on the top of the bottom section and lifted the, for lack of a better name or forgetting if they had an official part name, “Crud Collector” out. This was a very clean and easy way of disposing of the solid waste and there is a separate compartment for liquid waste. The instructions advise to rinse the brush roll and dry fully before reinstalling but I found that with the enclosed tool (kind of like a quarter circle shaped scraper with a handle) I was able to “wring out” the brush by pulling the tool across the brush and forcing the water out at the end. A quick pat dry with a couple paper towels and it seemed clean and dry enough to put back in to me, and I haven’t experienced any negative repercussions not following the instructions to the letter. Its a very skinny vacuum mop but tall enough to be comfortable to use (I’m 6’5” so some cleaning tools are hard on my back having to bend over slightly to use) and it packs in a corner very easily to charge if you have the right setup for your kitchen or garage. The cleaning power is impressive and while I’m sure my kids will find a way to clog or choke it eventually, the test cleanings we did the past week were nothing it couldn’t handle! If you have hardwood or tile floors then I highly recommend this for keeping your house clean.

5 Easy to Use, Easy to Clean, Quiet
Posted by Erin Warren on Dec 5th 2024
I was looking for a realiable floor cleaner that would be easy to setup and use throughout the day. I decided to try out the Shark Hydro after others telling me its a great cleaning tool. I am so glad I did, it was practically ready to use right out of the box. It is very lightweight comes with cleaning solution and partial battery charge. I really like the base station that it provides a way to dry the roller, a way to wrap the cord and place for the tool. When using it on my floor right off the bat I noticed how well it cleaned up the area. It did not take long for the floor to dry and it was the right amount of solution when using. The handle allows for easy navigation and how lightweight it was I never got tired after cleaning the entire huge floor of my house. After usage it was very easy to take apart to clearn. There are many portions of the attachments able to rinse and clean without things getting in the way. I even like bringing it with me and with an easy to remove handle it provides a travel ability. Overall I really enjoyed using this product and strongly recommend trying out this if you are looking for a realiable cleaning product

5 An excellent contender
Posted by David Higgins on Nov 22nd 2024
It's no secret to those who know me that I'm not thrilled with all these portable vacuums and similar devices that have come out in recent years, even some of the big names have said they are done making plug-in devices in favor of these, but I always feel they are underpowered or just not capable enough. Shark has changed my mind with this one. I recently moved into a house with only hardwood floors, so this device is exactly what the doctor ordered. Packaging: Nothing real special here, you have the device, a bottle of solution and a base for charging. It's in the normal blue Shark box as all of their items are, so don't expect wonders with the packaging, but it's basically an appliance, so it doesn't need bells and whistles. Set up: Easy, pop in the handle, brush is preinstalled, fill the tank with solution + water mix, charge the battery and off you go. Not really much else to say here. Cleaning: Like I said above, I was skeptical, I didn't think yet another battery powered cleaning device would do that great of a job, fortunately I was wrong. It seems to be more than up to the task for cleaning my entire house, it's not terribly loud. I do wish it had a wider track since I am using it everywhere. Solution seems to last a while per use, so that's a good thing. It picks up everything in the way, though it does have an easier time with larger things, that said it gets up all the cat hair (and cat messes) with ease, stronger suction would be good, but again, I haven't really had big issues with it, it's more of a wish than a need. Cleanup: After finishing with it, there is some cleanup as with all devices of this style, it doesn't have a lot of pieces so cleanup is relatively easy, though the hardest part is cleaning the main unit versus the rollers and such, fortunately it is lightweight so flipping it over to get out the remainder of the debris is easy. It may just be me though, I tend to get kind of intense with cleanup of these devices, so I use a hose outside. With the battery attached, just be careful not to get the whole thing wet. Overall: I do like it, it's a massive step up from similar portables I've had in the past, is it perfect? No, but it does get the job done. I would happily recommend it. Why 5 stars? When compared to everything else similar I've used in recent memory, it is the best option.

5 What A Great Tile and Linoleum Floor Cleaner!
Posted by Samuel Wise on Nov 16th 2024
The Shark HydroDuo Cordless Wet/Dry with Dirt-Reveal Floor Cleaner rocks! I was skeptical at first as it was so easy to assemble, lightweight and the head cleaning unit is small. The floor cleaner only takes a couple of minutes to assemble once it is out of the box and should be fully charged before using it for the first time. Once charged, their is a liquid fill container to which you simply add water to the water fill-line then add a bit of Shark Hydro Multi-Surface Concentrate to the concentrate fill-line. The concentrate enables fast drying, streak-free cleaning with no sticky residue and neutralizes any floor odors that may exist. A 16 ounce "Spring Clean" bottle is only $12.99 at Best Buy. As our house is 3500+ sf, I thought I would have to refill the water container and concentrate to complete the floor cleaning. Not so! I first went over the hard floors to dry clean it before scrubbing it. I then went back over it wet cleaning it. I still had lots of water and concentrate left after a full dry and half wet floor cleaning before I ran out of power. While I was at first skeptical, I am now impressed! The Shark HydroDuo floor cleaner does a great job and its Dirt-Reveal Technology (bright light affixed to the front of the floor cleaner) shows up all the dirt, dust, hair and other detritus our prior cleaning last week left behind. This front light is quite incredible and allows you to see the dirt you may have missed. I am now sold on the Shark HydroDuo With Dirt Reveal Technology that I highly recommend it to you! This floor cleaner is a star!

3 Disappointed
Posted by Vanessa Pugh on Oct 31st 2024
I was really looking forward to getting rid of my current 3-device floor cleaning routine and replace them with this device, but alas...I will need to keep looking. About my space: I live in a small studio apartment with my dog, who sheds almost constantly. We have laminate and tile flooring, so the only carpeting I was able to test this device on a small area rug. Dirt level: Because of my dog's near constant shedding, there's *always* hair on the floor to be cleaned up. I don't wear shoes in the apartment, so no real messy foot traffic. Other than that, just your typical level of dirt and debris on the floor. Pros: - Lightweight - Cordless - "Dirt Reveal" technology (aka, a headlight) Cons: - Battery life is pretty short - I didn't even clean my whole studio and the battery dropped by a 1/3 after being fully charged - While I said it being lightweight was a pro, honestly I think it is too lightweight - I'm short (5'3'' on a good day), and while vacuuming/mopping I inadvertently was lifting up the back of the device as I pulled the device back and forth. If I'm able to do that being as short as I am, I'd imagine it'd be even easier to accidentally be doing it for a taller person. - Suction/cleaning power - I tried it multiple times in different areas of my apartment both before sweeping and after sweeping, and thanks to the Dirt-Reveal light, I was able to see that regardless of how clean the floor was before, the device was not sucking much up. The wet function was decent, but the dry function left a lot to be desired. Back to the drawing board, I guess!

3 Nice, but not a steam mop
Posted by Sara Rios on Oct 29th 2024
I want to be very clear that this is not a steam mop. If you are looking for a steam mop, you may want to move along and pick something different. Based on the description, I had expected this to be like a steam mop that also vacuums. Notice there is no reference to steam in the description, because there is no steam. This is more designed for "everyday messes", not clean all the floors in your home type cleaning. Features Cordless The cordless feature is great. It makes it very easy to move around and use this appliance to clean my floors. Vacuum You can use this as a vacuum only, but I was not impressed with the power or performance of the vacuum. It picked stuff up, but we have three cats. We vacuum daily and this vacuum could not handle a single day of cat life in one room in our home. I would not recommend using this if you have pets. Dirt-Reveal Technology This was pretty impressive. The light illuminates the floor in a way that you see every single speck of dirt, cat hair, popcorn kernels, and anything else the cats or kids have left behind. I became very aware of just how dirty my floor was. Loved this feature, but wish the appliance had a little more power to thoroughly pick up everything I saw illuminated. Cleaning it out The appliance comes apart easily to empty the debris. The charging base has a stand to let the roller dry after use. On-demand spray This is nice if you don't plan to use it to mop the whole house. If you do, keep in mind that you are literally pressing the button to make it spray and then rolling the dry roller across it to mop. This isn't really effective if you have much square footage. This might be great for quick clean-ups of a small mess or in a small apartment. It provides a little bit of power and more durability than a swifter mop. Concentrate It comes with a bottle of concentrate to add to the water. I have mixed feelings about using an actual cleaner on the floor. I prefer to just use steam. It seemed to work ok to clean the floors, but it's not my preference. I think this would work fine with just water if you prefer not to replace the concentrate, but just keep in mind there is no steam so you really need a cleaning product if you want your floors to actually be clean and not just look clean. The floors did dry quickly and were streak-free. I would expect a learning curve on deciding how much spray you really need to clean your floor. Battery After cleaning about half of one room, the battery was down a bar. I prefer more battery life, but again, this is designed to be used for smaller messes or spaces, and for that I think it meets the need. Do be prepared to plug in the charging base somewhere. Time/Ease The width of the vacuum was much smaller than the steam mop I typically use, so I was a little disappointed with how slow the process was for me. Just another reminder that it was built for a specific purpose so make sure your needs align with that purpose. The device does help with some efficiency as it kind of propels itself so you don't have to invest a ton of energy really pushing it for it to do it's job. Overall, I thought the product was ok. My needs were a little different than the features offered by this vacuum/mop. For the right person, I could very easily see how this could be a perfect choice especially at this price point but do read up on the description and features to ensure that this product offers you things that will meet your needs.

4 Nice in open spaces, Vacs and Mops, Self-Propelled
Posted by Alexandria Smith on Oct 26th 2024
As a general rule, I really like all of the products I have gotten from Shark/Ninja, giving the vast majority enthusiastic, 5 start reviews. The Shark HydroDuo has some really great, original features, but some misses that I feel could have/should have been executed better. First the good, which this has a LOT of good: #1, what I think is the most unique feature is the light that appears to includes a blacklight, it really illuminates the fine particles that this combination mop/vacuum is going to pick up, particles you otherwise wouldn't even see! #2, another rare feature especially in something this compact is that it is self-propelled, it is absolutely effortless to use as a result. It makes for quick cleanup, which is greatly appreciated. #3 on the "nice" list is the quality of the clean-up. The tank for the liquid you mostly fill with water, and then add a little of the cleaning solution that comes with the machine. You'll get plenty of fills from the cleaning solution, and it really polishes well, as you can see in my photos. It vacuums and mops all at the same time, with separate areas for the solids it vacuums up and the waste liquid. The roller that is the real "secret sauce" for the HydroDuo has a unique combination of texture and absorbency that makes it equally adept at vacuuming and mopping. #4, the ease of cleaning the machine. You simply pinch the 2 tabs to remove the lid, then there's an easy to grab tab to release the roller. Finally, the waste water bin simply pops out, and you can clean it thoroughly in just a few minutes; dumping the vacuum portion, running the roller under water and squeezing out the dirt/grime for that, and then just use a paper towel or rag to clean the rest of it. Easy peasy. Finally, #5, the charging. The HydroDuo comes with a stand that charges the machine while stored out of the way. I really like this feature because it has charging contacts that attach easily; you aren't bending down to locate a power cord to plug in, which is the case for a similarly sized hand held pool vacuum that I have. But, there are a few attributes of the HydroDuo that I feel make it worth subtracting a star. First, the size of the waste water and vacuum compartments are pretty small. I tested the machine around my cat's automatic litter box which was a target rich environment for this machine. After using it on perhaps a 100 square foot area of vinyl plank flooring, as you can see, both waste compartments were pretty much full. I don't have confidence I could use the HydroDuo to clean the 3 connected areas of hard surface in one go without having to stop to empty it; my entry foyer; the home office area, and the kitchen. The 2nd and 3rd things, both related, have to do with the limits of where it can clean as a result of the design. The head of this machine is quite tall and as shown in one of the pictures, could not clean under the lip of my computer desk. And then, the area between the roller and the sides of the machine make it impossible to clean within about 1/4 to 1/2 an inch of walls, furniture, etc. If I were engineering this machine, I would use a spinner such as what you see on many robotic vacuums, perhaps made from microfiber or some other material that could dampen itself first so it could remove dirt and mop all the way to the walls and under obstructions. With that feature, they could make the head unit a bit larger and able to hold more waste between times when the unit needs to be emptied/cleaned. Overall though, the positives outweigh the negatives by a comfortable margin, and I feel a 4 star grade is warranted.

4 Cleans well but maybe not great for big jobs
Posted by Heather Cox on Oct 22nd 2024
I’m not a huge fan of using my mop to clean my ceramic tile floors. You need a bucket of water, you have to frequently wring out the mop, not very convenient. So I was excited to try out the Shark HydroDuo. The HydroDuo is lightweight, easy to assemble, easy to use, and easy to maneuver. It has a pivoting head that makes it easy to get around obstacles, like toilets or furniture. The HydroDuo is surprisingly quiet. It’s quieter than a typical cordless vacuum cleaner, I would say it is maybe a bit louder than an electric toothbrush. The water/cleaning solution reservoir is easy to fill and the volume is ok (a bit less than 16 ounces total). This was enough to clean about 3 quarters of my ceramic tiled kitchen floor (about 154 square feet) before refilling, although I may have been able to do it all with one fill had I been more conservative with my spraying. It’s difficult to know how much water you need to spray to get the roller sufficiently saturated, so your mileage may vary. The HydroDuo actually cleaned the floor quite well and it also dried quickly. I was also impressed with the battery life for the HydroDuo. I was able to clean my kitchen, 2 bathrooms, and a hallway all without exhausting the battery. My major complaint with the HydroDuo is the small size of the dirty water reservoir. At around 4 ounces, the dirty water reservoir is significantly smaller than the water/cleaning solution reservoir (about 16 ounces). This means having to stop and empty the dirty water reservoir every few minutes. If you are cleaning far from a sink, you may want to keep a bucket nearby. This is a major problem with the Hydro Duo, I’m not sure why they didn’t design it with a dirty water reservoir closer in size to the clean water reservoir. It means that the HydroDuo might be better suited to smaller spot cleaning jobs rather than cleaning big floors all at once. The floor cleaning solution is also proprietary from Shark. The manual says to only use their solution, I don’t know whether there are any 3rd party alternatives. This is obviously not an issue with an ordinary mop, since you can use a wide selection of soaps and cleaning solutions. Overall, the Shark HydroDuo cleans my floors quite well and is easy to use, but it would be much more convenient to use if it had a bigger dirty water reservoir.

3 My opinion only
Posted by Tonya Nelson on Oct 22nd 2024
Didn't have any power and you had to go slowly and over the area you were vacuuming more than once. Never tried to mop. It is easy to use, light wait, light was good and brush was very good on self cleaning. If you don't have a dog in your house it would be a great vacuum.
